For the next episode of Sublo and Tangy Mustard there's a special sequence where I think it could be fun to get some guest artists in for a small collaboration. A few people have asked about doing some guest animation for S&TM, and I think it makes sense here. If you're interested, read on! If not, you should stop here to avoid spoilers...

SETUP

In episode 13, Sublo and Tangy Mustard go to a Subpar convention where they meet a bunch of other Sublos and Tangy Mustards. Sublo feels weird about it since so much of his identity is wrapped up in being this mascot character. At one point they walk into a room full of other Sublos and he freaks out. He starts hallucinating weird bizarro Sublos (this is where your submissions will be seen) until Tangy Mustard snaps him back to reality.

WHAT TO SUBMIT

Either a still image or a short looping animation of a weird version of Sublo. It can be on-model, off-model, 'bootleg', badly-drawn, whatever! If it's a loop I suggest some kind of dance or a walk cycle.

The only restriction is that you have to create it in Adobe Flash/Animate and submit it as an .FLA file so I can incorporate it into the scene as a whole.

If you have created fan art of the series before, you're welcome to submit it for this project but I will only use your pre-existing fan art if you explicitly give permission to use it here.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Email your submission to aaron@aaronlongcartoons.com with the subject line "SUBLO COLLAB"

DEADLINE

Try to have them in by July 29th but if you need a little extra time let me know!

RIGHTS

I'm not offering any compensation for the submission-- your participation is entirely voluntary. By submitting your art/animation you agree that I will retain the non-exclusive right to use the animation or art submitted in perpetuity (whoever created the submission will retain the same right). Even in some future scenario where the episode generates revenue, you will not receive anything for your submission. I am also under no obligation to use the submission.

CREDIT

You will be credited in the video and description. Let me know what name you'd like to be credited as, whether it's your real name, nickname or online username.

I can finally share a clip of what I've been working on at my day job for the past year. It's a new show by the same crew as Bojack called "Tuca and Bertie" which is coming out in May! I directed three episodes, did the opening titles and animated a bunch of stuff here and there. It's surreal and cartoony and different from other adult animated shows on TV right now. You can see a few shots of the weird off-model animation I did for the opening titles in this video!

Here's a little bonus thing to tide you over till the next episode (it should be out sometime in January). This is the animatic for episode 4 "Katy's Birthday" which seems to be a fan favourite so far, and maybe my favourite as well. I try to do storyboards very quick and dirty, just scribbling enough in to see if I think the overall shot flow and acting are working. I prefer not to get the boards too tied down, because I feel that takes away a lot of the impetus to actually do the animation, and removes the fun of discovery from the process. There's some dialogue missing, some shots that were later cut, some different staging etc. Hope you enjoy this! And Merry Christmas!

I'm sure many of you know the NG animator Rodrigo Huerta, aka El Cid who does a great interview series called Shot Talk. I'm the guest on the latest episode! We talked about Sublo and Tangy Mustard, Bojack Horseman, Fester Fish and more! It was a lot of fun chatting with Rodrigo so check it out!

I'm no expert on writing, but people have asked what my process is for Sublo & Tangy Mustard so here's a pretty in-depth post! I hope there's some helpful stuff in it.

Hey everybody, in the next couple of weeks I'm gonna be uploading some cool exclusive bonus stuff to my Patreon, for backers only. Things like interviews with the voice actors, my Flash files, outtakes, commentary and whatever else people ask for. It's at patreon.com/aaronlong and I'm grateful for every contribution! I don't usually plug it much but this is the first time I'm actually posting exclusive content on it and I don't want anybody to feel like they're missing out. I'll be posting most of this stuff publicly down the road, but you don't want to wait months to see what Tangy Mustard looks like in real life, do you?! You need to know NOW!
